Episode 5 is a bit of ups and downs.

Still some parts with bad pacing. I caught much of it but sometimes It just gets past me.

I have new microphone but I had the level set wrong on it so that has to change.

Used Levelator and it corrected the highs and lows so the sound is more even

Used soundsoap on it and I'm not sure it really did more good then bed. My Ssss sound slurred and it changed my first word in my reading the word "Dame" into an unfixable blob. My original recording sounds fine.

Also I think I got a bit rushed to being it to an ending, I'm not sure to be honest. As a stand alone the end seems rushed but it may not be rushed if it is part of ongoing story..

Big View

This is episode 5 and we are within an episode of the end of chapter 1 I'm excited to reach that milestone. Chapter 1...DONE! I think what I may do is remaster all the episodes as one large epsode and then move on. Not sure but I'm thinking about it.

So I hope you are enjoying it so far.

Everything is going along very well. Editing episode 5 of fire sky and writing up number 6. It's starting to hum along and this time I'm using sound soap to clean out extra sounds and then using Levelator to set the levels. I think this is going to be the standard from now on and it will give me a better product.

I have the next two days off and I'm going to grind down on the editing with a new commitment to getting it all right. I've made some mistakes in the last episodes and learned a bunch. This one I shall through all the magic I can at the job.

I'm very happy with the story so far and cannot wait for each new section.

Can you believe it. Chapter 5 on the way..

Oh yeah I forgot, Got a new microphone so we are going to see what a new Mic does for the magic. I really hope to have a better audio product.

New Microphone + SOundsoap + Levelator + Better editing = Better product.

It should post Tuesday.

It's not like writing a short story or long story or a script.

The process follows many of the same steps.

Outline Or as I call it High Points for script writing they call it beats.

Rough Draft

THen the big eddit.

That's where I wanted to stop because when you are writing for an ongoing podcast drama or podio book the big Edit is very very important. Trimming everything down to keep things flowing and under time is a big big element of what you are trying to do.

Here is a trick I learned along the way. I have a word document I call the Palette. When I edit something out, not like a word or a phrase but when I say.. this information is not important I put it in the Palette document. Over the episodes this builds up and someplace down the line when you are short on time or have a space where you can slip something in you have the information right there all ready done and ready to go.

In other words.

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

works for the Podcast as well

Reduce = Edit

Reuse = Put on Palette

Recycle = Slip it in down the line.

Oh wow just posted the tower council episode.

After I listened to it and I think I got the pace wrong, it sounds like I was reading too fast. That is my mistake as the editor and I will make sure not to do that again next episode. Please forgive.

Ok so this episode is done and I'm working on the next one as your read this and I should have it posted by thursday or Friday.

This is a cut down, re-done episode from my first proto-type episode that was 90 minutes long. This one is 30 minutes and any information worthy of keeping will be in the other episodes anyway so why bloat this one up.

In the proto-type episodes it was over an hour long and I want to cut it down to just over a half hour. I think it can be done but I'm going to have to really come to the page with a serious effort here.

To edit down to the simplest story is not always easy and it's hard because every writer in a way marries his or her's work.

Now I have to put on the podcast producers hat and crank down hard.

Leave the good story, remove the fluffery, wait! Is that a word?

Well it is now.

I have broken the episode into 5 bits, each bit I'm going to drill down on to get to the bones of the story on it's own. I plan on recording on monday. This may be a bit tight but I'm on target to do it.

Fire Sky Chapter 3 The Whistler is up

The next episode of Fire SKy is up in Itunes.
